Yes this is concerning because any scuffing you can feel with a fingernail has gone through the nikasil bore coating. This damage can lead to a rapid loss of compression and potentially serious engine failure. Are you the original owner and how many miles are on the motor?
I have to agree with @sin city priest. That's definitely not something to ignore!
Modern engines, including a Norton 961, rely on precise tolerances and surface finishes.
Scuffing could indicate either inadequate lubrication, contamination, or a manufacturing defect.
It will only get worse, and could lead to lost compression, increased oil consumption, and eventually more serious damage!
I'd pull the cylinders and investigate properly!
Why are we seeing cylinder wall scuffing on a modern Norton 961? For a premium-priced retro bike, you'd think basic engine durability wouldn't still be a coin toss.
